I knew from second grade that I wanted to be a teacher and a mom.  Therefore, after high school I set off to get my degree and find a husband.  I am a 1981 graduate of the College of St. Catherine with a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish.  I married Mark Mischke in July of that same year, and began teaching in the fall of 1981 at Highland Catholic School.  I have taught at both Highland Catholic and Nativity of Our Lord grade schools in St. Paul. I taught in the primary grades. 

While raising our family, I returned to Highland Catholic as a Teaching Assistant working in the first grade classrooms and in the kindergarten.  I also have taught first grade science for many years.  In 2006, Jane Schmidt approached me and asked me to set up and coordinate a Literacy Lab in the school.  Little did Jane know that my dream was to someday work with children who needed extra reinforcement in reading and math. 

I currently coordinate our Literacy Lab here at Highland Catholic School where I work with children in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade.  I also oversee an extensive group of wonderful parents, former teachers, and parishioners who volunteer their time and expertise in the Literacy Lab.  I truly am working my dream job.
