Important News
How many ways do we use music in our lives? We listen to CD's, radios, and iPods. We sing at celebrations, at church, at sporting events. Music is used in movies, parades, elevators, even cartoons! There is classical music, jazz, broadway musicals, hip hop, opera and marching band music. Can you even imagine life without music? At Hi-C, we "Got Music" too!
The kinders are learning the many ways we can keep the steady beat through songs and games. First graders are moving to the beat as well, and learning how music can have two different parts. Second graders are learning to sing with hand signs and pitch names. Third graders are learning to play complicated rhythms on the xylophones, while singing a different part! Students in fourth grade are just beginning to play recorders, a very important skill that also involved learning to read the notes on the treble clef. By the end of October, they will be able to play pieces with three pitches successfully. The fifth grade curriculum begins with reading and playing complicated rhythms while learning two more pitches on their recorders. The students will also compose their own pieces to describe the season of autumn.
If you stop by the music room this month, you may hear singing, drumming, xylophones, or recorders. You will definitely hear children who "Got Music!"
