Welcome to November!

6th grade is healthy right now!!!!!!! Yeah!

Please continue to check your child's online gradebook. Encourage your child to talk to their teachers if there are any missing assignments (due to absences or late work).

******A call for a volunteer:

Our trip to Long Lake is April 28-30, 2010.

We need a nurse or doctor to accompany us on this adventure into the woods.

Please call with questions (Jeanne White has joined us on many trips and can tell you how much fun you would have and what your duties would be).

What the Sixth Grade Has Been Learning:

Religion: We are reading the book of Exodus, learning about Moses and God's chosen people getting back to the Promised Land. We will be talking about the 10 Plagues and doing posters for this part of the ‘story'.

Science: We have started chapter 10 which is all about chemical reactions and how much they are a part of our everyday lives.Reading: 6th graders just finished their first novel, A Long Way From Chicago by Richard Peck. We will enjoy some short stories around the holiday season and will begin our next novel shortly.

Social Studies: We've started our unit on ancient Greece. So far, the students have studied the government forms with which the ancient Greeks experimented. We've also studied the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars. Next, we'll delve into their cultural achievements.

Math: The 6th graders have just taken a test on data displays. We worked on organizing data into bar and line graphs as well as box-and-whisker and stem-and-leaf plots. We will begin talking about greatest common factors, least common multiples, and fractions for the next few weeks.

English: We finished our unit on Dictionary Skills. The next grammar unit, coming up shortly, will be on Prepositional Phrases. For the next week or so we will be finishing a composition on our favorite restaurants. We have done some work on outlining, transition words and phrases, the thesaurus. and the computer skills needed to write and organize effectively.
