Happy 2010!  It’s a new year for learning and the sixth grade is busy after their relaxing Christmas break.

  • In social studies right now, we are learning about the Roman Empire.  We’ve covered many of the the major events, persons, and accomplishments of the Romans, and soon we’ll be making models of their architecture.  We’ll also be designing a travel brochure for ancient Rome in computer class.
  • In English, the sixth graders have finished a unit on prepositional phrases, and they are currently writing short stories.
  • In Math, the sixth graders are finishing up a chapter on positive and negative integers.  They have a test on Chapter 6 on Wednesday.  We will then begin a chapter on algebraic equations.

  • Religion:  We are studying the Israelites first entering (and the conquest of) the Promised Land.  We will be learning about the first kings of Israel and how ‘human’ they were.
  • Science:  In science class we are studying Newton’s laws of force and motion, and are looking forward to the experiments that go with this unit.
