Hi-lites week of April 22, 2010

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Highland Catholic School has joined the social networking world and it is so much fun!  Facebook users are encouraged to become a fan of our Highland Catholic School facebook page.  We promise to post tons of photos and news!  Also, you can follow the daily action on twitter.  Yes, we have been tweeting.

This week, I had the pleasure of reaching out to hundreds of our alumni through

e-mail.  I invited them to reconnect with their ol' grade school.  I have such happy memories of them.  Here is a sampling of replies.  (I will publish all replies into our first electronic alumni newsletter.)

Have a great week.

Jane Schmidt
Principal

Note:  This is the first time that I have to miss our huge Swing event.  My wonderful godson is being married in Memphis on May 1st.  I truly wish I could bi-locate.  Swing is my favorite party of the year!  Have fun without me and thanks for your incredible support of Highland Catholic School.

Alumni News

Hi Mrs. Schmidt,

Here is the latest from my life. As of right now, I am a third year student at the U of MN School of Nursing and cadet in the Army ROTC program. I will be leaving this summer for LDAC at Fort Lewis, Washington. I intend to specialize in pediatric nursing, and will graduate and be commissioned in the summer of 2012. Last summer I traveled to Moscow where I studied international politics and Russian at the Moscow State Institute for Foreign Affairs (MGIMO). My eldest sister is currently living in Texas while the other is stationed at Fort Drum, NY. I am still living in St. Paul.

Best,

Philip Jacquet-Morrison

Hey Mrs. Schmidt,

Good to hear from Hi-C!  Not much to report on life's happenings from my end.  Graduated from CDH in 2007 and will graduate (hopefully) from Boston College in 2011.  If there's anything else I can add or assist with please let me know.

Hello,

It is wonderful to re-connect with Hi-C!

I am currently living in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  My husband, Jake, and I just welcomed our first child, Courtney Clare Moreland, on February 6, 2010.  I graduated from Marquette University in 2000 and am an Assistant Vice President in Commercial Banking at Fifth Third Bank.

I look forward to hearing about all of my classmates and others from Highland Catholic!

Thanks,

Anne Moreland (Sampair)

Hello Jane,

Thanks for your email.  It's great to see Highland Catholic reaching out to grads to stay connected.  I'm still very close friends with a number of people from Hi-C, so I think this is a neat idea.

A quick update on where life's at with me...

I'm married to Amy (Bohlman) Klimoski who hails from Madison, WI.  We had our first child, our son Leo, just over 6 months ago.  We live in the area on Saratoga St near Snelling and Randolph.  I work for Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), a geographic information systems (GIS) software company.  I conduct sales to state and local government organizations.

That's a quick snapshot.  I hope you get plenty of responses.  I'll look forward to an upcoming letter from Mr. Backe.

Thanks again,

Sam

D.I.d you hear the news?

A Musical Menu

The Highland Catholic School Spring Band and Choir Concert has morphed into a springtime luncheon.  The concert has been changed to May 26th.  Parents, grandparents and other special guests are invited to enjoy a Noon lunch together in the LCCC Community Room while being entertained by our fabulous choir and band.  Students will enjoy dessert with their guests.

In order to plan for food, please R.S.V.P. to the school office, 651.690.2477 or to

j.schmidt@highlandcatholic.org before May 20th.  It should be a lovely event.

The Solo Festival for 6th grade Advanced Band members is Friday, May 14th at school during the school day.  Start practicing!

Prayer Request

Our sympathy to Austin Shepard, on the death of his paternal grandfather, Phillip Shepard.  May he rest in peace.

Here is a thoughtful prayer, written by one of our second grade First Communicants.

Dear God,

You gave me what I need.  I'll give you what you need, Love.  You are the shepherd, I  am the sheep.  Jesus is the Son of God and Mary is the mother of Christ.  You watch me up from Heaven to earth to see if people are good to other people.  You know what I'm doing.

Love, Your Sheep,

Megan H..
