Hi-lites week of February 4, 2010
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for a wonderful week. From pjs and bad hair, the inspiring message from our distinguished alum, Michelle Salmen, the excitement of S.A.L.T. classes, to Bingo, it has been a lovely celebration of the spirit of this great community!
Calling all "moms:" Attached to this Hi-lites you will find an invitation to the Women's Retreat in the LCCC Community Room on Tuesday evening. I hope each and every one of you will abandon your children for the evening and spend a spot of time on yourself! I have had the pleasure of hearing Lou Anne Tighe speak to the archdiocesan principals and to the HCS faculty. She is inspiring and entertaining! She has a wicked sense of humor!
The evening starts with a 6:30 a.m. dessert, followed by the 7-9:00 retreat. I guarantee that you will have a wonderful evening. Call up your mom, sister or best friend and invite them to join you. Note: you do not have to be a member of the Women's Council to attend. This is their gift to you.

Medallion Hunt
Jane Grumbles, Matthew O'Leary, Emily Peterson, Patrick O'Meara and Megan Culligan were the lucky winners who used their detective-like skills to find the HCS medallion that has been hiding each day on our website. The medallion moves for the last time today at 3:00 p.m. Bring in your guess tomorrow. Thanks to Ms. Sairey Gernes for hiding the medallion each day. You are a tricky one!

Young Authors' Conference
Last Friday, a group of students from HCS attended the Young Authors Conference with Mrs. Carol Broadnax, our enrichment teacher. Here are a few of their comments about the day.
The Young Authors' Conference taught me how to use different styles. I will use those skills throughout the rest of my life. It was an honor to go.
Erin Gallagher
I enjoyed learning how to write in a whole different perspective. The teachers were amazing. I hope I can go again next year.
Jackie Radford
I learned a lot...maybe a little too much. The teachers were amazingly smart.
Frank Kajer
Going to the Young Author's Conference was awesome! We learned a lot of cool things about writing. I loved making up characters.
Kate Grumbles
I'm glad I went to the Young Author's Conference. My favorite was Diego Vasquez's class. We wrote poems. All the people who taught were writers. It was really inspiring!
